I often get asked, "When is the best time for newborn portraits" The quick and easy answer is 9-13 days, at this time, babies are sleepy and squishy, and we can typically get through all poses. That being said, I've photographed babies who were almost 8 weeks old, I've had them do every pose, and sleep through the whole session. On the flip side of that, I've photographed babies who were less than 8 days old, and they were awake the whole time. Every baby is so different, I do find that babies under 8 days, still need some time to get settled, they are still so brand new. Everything is so new to everyone, whether it's your first baby or your fourth baby, there is still some adjusting to do. I recently photographed an 8-week old baby, when I hear that, I know that going in, I may not get sleepy shots and if I do, they may be hard to get, this little man was amazing, he slept the whole time and when I moved him into the different poses, he stayed asleep! On the opposite side of that, I did a baby at 7 days old, he was so alert, I had to come back in a few days, when I came back, he slept the whole time and we went through every pose!
